A. in philosophy from Mumbai University and a Master in Music from Banaras Hindu University, securing the gold medal. He has assimilated the Dagarvani tradition of Dhrupad and evolved a distinctive style of his own in the rendering of Dhrupad. He has specialized in advanced technique of Alap - Jod - Jhala, laykari, voice culture and pedagogy both traditional and institutional. Apart from the judicious blend of two Ustads , Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar , Ritwik has his own distinctive quality . Alap and the subtle nuances of the raga are his forte. Ritwik has assimilated the characteristics and finesses of the dagar tradition and evolved an original style in performance that highlights several musical layers of variations of evoking sublimity and shanta rasa throughout the performance . Rhythmic intensification and interplay of the song text of dhrupad adds to his presentation. He has also created new dimensions of dhrupad performance such as Sanskrit verses, modern poetry, inclusion of cello and vichitra vina with voice etc.
